Using Technology, while Travelling is a Great Boon, but there is a Dark Side to it as well. Make sure, Technology Does not Cheat You.
Travelling in itself is so fulfilling,it creates a whole new consciousness in you,it creates a whole new you! Travelling solo or in groups is not what matters, what matters the most is the life that travelling engulfs in it,the outlook it gives, the feeling of belongingness and the beauty it brings.
But to be very truthful travelling these days has become a business, travelling websites have become an e commerce website.Selling anything and everything has become their moto. Although these websites and all the other technologies has made our life easier. It has saved a lot of time and labour, everything is just clicks away, which is good in many ways.using technology while travelling is a great boon.
The Technology at our disposal, proper car rental apps, food delivery apps, hotel booking apps, and business listing apps. You can find the smallest business on these apps, be it a chaiwala or a famous international café. These apps made our travel lot easier as compared to my last trip to goa 4 years back. Things were lot easier to do, got many cheap deals for car rentals, adventure sports and hotels. I visited many places, which I didn’t know even existed. This gave me an experience of the true goan delights. Be it small fish sandwiches at a small stall near arambol beach to the pork salad at a top end café at baga beach .
Technology as a dangerous master -
But anything which has pros also has its cons.few days back i travelled to Kerala and i had got my hotels ,flights and cabs got booked from an online source. As i landed at the airport there was no cab available for me,i had to call several times and after all those calls what i get to hear is even more frustrating, the person who picked up my call did not know anything about me,i had to give my complete info to him ,from my name to my booking id,the place i have been visiting etc which came to me as a shock because i had trusted them to be with me throughout the journey but they did not know anything about me, yet i still found myself in bit of a relief that now that they have found out the issue ill get a quick solution but not in this case because that person on the call had put me on the IVR saying to forward my call to another department which left me more embittered.
After waiting for n hour or two i got a cab finally and somehow managed to reach my hotel which was an another disappointment because the hotel was not the same that has been booked online.so in the name of making my travel easier they were making it ”not so easier”.Here the people who were supposed to help me were themselves becoming a mess for me.what i was missing here was the sense that i was in the hands of someone i could trust. This is when you think of searching other arrangements.so what m talking about is the credibility which these sites fail to give and technology becomes obsolete here. You may think now if shopping online for travel is a good thing, but is it? Travelers like me that booked online had to call Internet sites or stand in lines to attempt to make new travel arrangements. Technology didn’t work so well for us.
If those same people had booked their travel through a professional travel service, a single phone call could have had their flights, cabs, hotels rearranged. The agents would have used technology to help travelers quickly and efficiently, which is a very positive use of today’s travel technology. So after juggling through all these sites which sell travel and has made travel a business i found the importance of professional travel planners and genuine travel agents which wholeheartedly believes and works towards making travel fun ,fulfilling and consuming. The need of an hour is to make travel more manual and customizable. The freedom of making your own choices and paying according to it,the freedom of being able to make any last time changes.and not falling in the ambush of these inexperienced travel sellers.
After looking through all the internet sites and the business,i found their are some sites working towards it.Their professional travel experts and being available through out your expedition makes travel more easier.Overall, technology has benefitted the travel industry.what’s lacking is quality control. But when it comes to travel, would you not rather prefer a live voice of somebody throughout your travel. The human touch can never be replaced by any technology.
